Protecting what already exists
How long do printed photographs last?
Most printed photographs begin to fade within 25 to 50 years
without archival storage conditions. Colour prints are
particularly vulnerable to light, humidity and temperature
fluctuation. Photographs stored in boxes, albums or drawers
are already degrading. Professional archival scanning creates
a preservation copy before the original deteriorates further.
What happens to family photos when someone dies?
Without a plan, they are divided, disputed or discarded.
Physical photographs have no legal status in an estate and no
automatic heir. Tiora establishes a documented custody chain
and a nominated successor before that moment arrives, so the
archive transfers intact to the person you choose.
How do I organise decades of family photographs?
Start with photographs, albums and
documents before addressing digital files. Tiora provides an
archive box with dividers and a sorting guide. Once returned,
every item is professionally scanned, classified by face,
decade and event, and structured into a searchable archive.
My parents have boxes of old photos — where do I start?
Order a Tiora archive box. It arrives with everything needed
to sort and pack the materials. Your parents fill it at their
own pace, return it pre-paid and pre-insured, and receive a
complete digital archive with every original returned. The
process requires no technical knowledge.

Why professional preservation matters
What is archival-grade scanning?
Archival-grade scanning means a minimum of 600 dots per inch
on a professional flatbed scanner. Tiora uses various techniques for capturing photographs and documents. At this resolution, a
scan retains sufficient detail for large-format printing and
long-term preservation. Consumer scanning services typically
scan at 300 dpi, which is insufficient for archival purposes.
What is the difference between a family archive and cloud
storage?
Cloud storage keeps files alive. It provides no structure, no
context, no ownership model and no succession plan. A Tiora
archive organises materials by person, decade and event,
establishes who controls access across generations, and
ensures the archive transfers to the right person when the
time comes.
Why can't I just scan photos myself?
You can. The result will be an unstructured folder of files
with no classification, no custody chain and no succession
plan. DIY scanning also requires a flatbed scanner capable of
archival resolution, which most households do not own. Tiora
handles the scanning, structure and continuity as a single
engagement.
Is a professional scanning service worth the cost?
A USB drive of scanned files solves the physical problem. It
does not solve the organisational one. Tiora's engagement
includes archival scanning, classification, family access
structure and succession planning. The cost reflects a
permanent outcome, not a one-time digitisation job.
How is Tiora different from other
services?
The combination of other stoarge, scanning and structure technologies fall short of Tiora's unified family archive. Tiora is the only service that combines archival
scanning of physical materials, a structured digital archive,
family access governance and a documented succession protocol
in a single engagement.
Family archives and estate planning
Can a family archive be part of an estate plan?
Yes. A Tiora archive is designed to be legally load-bearing
within an estate plan. The custody chain is documented, the
succession protocol is transferable, and the
Founder-to-Successor authority transfer is verified.
Solicitors and estate planners can reference the archive
directly within a Will or estate planning document.
What happens to the archive when the account holder dies?
If a successor has been nominated, the archive transfers to
them through a deliberate verified process. Nothing transfers
automatically. The archive remains intact and accessible
throughout. The successor assumes full authority according to
the instructions set by the original account holder.
How does Tiora handle blended families and contested access?
Access is defined by the account holder, not by family
relationships. Ex-spouses, stepchildren, half-siblings and
estranged relatives have only the access explicitly granted to
them. As family circumstances change, access can be updated.
Tiora holds those instructions and enforces them without
requiring family consensus.
Can a solicitor or estate planner recommend Tiora to clients?
Yes. Tiora has an advisor programme for solicitors, estate
planners and financial advisers. A co-brandable client brief
is available, and the archive onboarding process can be
white-labelled. Advisor enquiries are handled directly.

Is the Tiora custody chain legally documented?
Yes. Tiora operates under a Transfer Custody Agreement
governing the handling of physical materials. The archive
succession protocol is documented and transferable. Tiora is
based in Sydney and operates under Australian law
including the Privacy Act 1988.
